PROTONS AND DEUTERONS FROM Al$sup 27$ BOMBARDED BY 14.8 MEV NEUTRONS
Angular distributions for direct interaction proton groups corresponding to individual Mg/sup 27/ levels are measured and shown to agree with theoretical predictions. Nuclear temperatures of 1.55 plus or minus 0.15 Mev and 0.49 plus or minus 0.02 Mev are found for the reactions (n,p gamma ) + (n,pn) and (n,np), respectively. Cross sections for proton emission are: total 273 plus or minus 20 mb; (n,p gamma ) + (n,pn) 89 mb compound nucleus, 27 mb direct interaction; (n,np) 157 mb. Spins are assigned to several Mg/sup 27/ levels from analysis of the present experiment and of previous Mg/sup 26/(d,p)Mg/sup 27/ experiments. Angular distributions of deuteron groups corresponding to Mg/sup 26/ levels at 0, 1.83, and 3.6 Mev are measured. Reduced widths are extracted and shown to agree with the predictions of the rotational model. (auth)
