IONIZING RADIATION AND REGENERATION IN SALAMANDERS. Final Report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4025558
ABS>Radiation biology was employed as a tool in studies of cell regeneration. Data are presented from studies on the effects of x radiation on regenerative capacity of salamander tails and limbs after amputation, tracer studies of metabolism in irradiated and nonirradiated salamanders, and the origin of regenerative myoblasts in mice exposed to local doses of 500 to 300 r x radiation before or after muscle wounding. It was found that these energies completely canceled regeneration in the wounds. (C.H.)
