Separation of Cd/sup 109/, produced in a cyclotron target by the reaction Ag/sup 109/(d,2n)Cd/sup 109/ (half life 470 days), is compl icated by large quantities of Ag/sup 110//sup m/ (T1/2 = 270 days) produced in Ag/sup 109/ (d p)Ag/sup 110/m reactions. The nitric acid concentratio n of silver with Cd/ sup 109/ also results in large copper admixtures. Hence, microquantities of cadmium must bc separated from large quantities of silver and copper. The separation was achieved by precipitation of AgI and Cu/sub 2/I/sub 2/. (R.V.J.)
