MEASUREMENT OF THE (n,2n) EFFECTIVE CROSS SECTION OF Ag$sup 109$ AND Ag$sup 107$ FOR 14-Mev NEUTRONS (in German)

The effective cross sections of Ag/sup 109/ and Ag/sup 107/ for 14Mev neutrons were determined by activation of natural silver and absolute measurements of the originating activities. The neutron reactions (n,2n) with Ag/ sup 107/ yielded two isomers (24 min and 8.3 days) and with Ag/sup 109/ yielded Ag/sup 108/ with a half life of 2.4 min. Values obtained for cross sections were 0.84 surface proces 0.15 b for Ag/sup 109/(n,2n)Ag/sup 108/, 0.74 surface proces 0.12 b for Ag/sup 107/(n,2n)Ag/sup 106/(24 min), and 0.60 surface proces 0.10 b for Ag/sup 107/(n,2n)Ag/sup 106/(8.4 days).
