REFUELLING THE AGR

The design and characteristics of the Windscale Advanced Gas Cooled Reactor refueling machine are presented. The machine is designed for positioning automaticaily over any of the 253 tubes to witin 0.005 in. The machine is independent of all extraneous mechanical aids and will travel the full floor width of the containment building. In addition to working under the normal conditions of full load and pressure, facilities are available for inspection and maintenance during shct-down. The 65-ft-high machine has a working pressure (on load) of 2S0 lb/in./sup 2/ and is designed to operate at 325 deg C. (N.W.R.)
