Magnetic properties of NpBr$sub 4$ were studied from 4.2 to 20.0 degreeK with the Mossbauer resonance of the 59.54-keV $gamma$ ray in $sup 237$Np. Magnetic susceptibility was measured from 2.2 to 70.5 degreeK using a vibrating sample magnetometer at an applied field of 10 KOe. An antiferromagnetic transition was found at 12.5+-0.5 degreeK. Above the Neel temperature, NpBr$sub 4$ obeys the Curie--Weiss law, chi=C/(T+theta), with theta equal to 16.2 degreeK and an effective moment of 2.60 $mu$/subB/. The Mossbauer spectra exhibited magnetic hyperfine splitting over the temperature range 4.2 to 20 degreeK with g$sub 0$$mu$/subn/H/sub eff/=10.4 cm/sec at 4.2 degreeK. A small decline in g$sub 0$$mu$/subn/H/sub eff/ was observed for temperatures above 12 degreeK. (AIP)
