Tetragonal neptunium oxide telluride Np/sub 2/O/sub 2/Te: crystallographic and /sup 237/Np Mossbauer studies

Journal Article · · Mater. Res. Bull.; (United States)

The preparation, the X-ray identification and the hyperfine properties of Np/sub 2/C/sub 2/Te are described. The neptunium oxide telluride is isostructural with the corresponding rare-earth oxide tellurides which crystallize with the tetetragonal La/sub 2/O/sub 2/Te-type. /sup 237/Np Mossbauer absorption spectrometry measurements at 4.2 K are reported: Np/sub 2/O/sub 2/Te is found to be magnetic at this temperature and the isomeric shift value (+ 26.3(2) mm.s/sup -1/ relative to NpA1/sub 2/) is consistent with a trivalent Np ion thus confirming the crystallographic assumptions.
