Changes in proteolysis of the kidneys and skeletal muscles due to radiation damage in animals was studied. The experiments were carried out on white rats, irradiated with 600- and 800-r doses of gamma rays. The data obtained show that irradiation of animals considerably intensifies proteolytic processes in the kidneys without influencing those going on in the skeletal muscles. The intensification of proteolysis in the kidneys is observed 24 hr after irradiation; then it progresses, reaching the maximum on the 7 to 13th day, depending upon the dose of irradiation. A direct dependence is reported between the irtensity of proteolysis of the kidney tissue and the dose of the irradiation the animals received. (auth)
