A study was made of the interaction of Mo(V) and Mo(Vl) ions with 1- mercaptopropionic acid and some of its derivatives: o- and p-phenetidide, o- and p-anisidide -, and o- and p-toluidide -1-mercaptopropionic acid. It was established that 1-mercaptopropionic acid and p-phenetidide -1-mercaptopropionic acid interact with Mo(V) and Mo(VI) ions in the ratio of 2: 1. The compounds of molybdenum with p-phenetidide -1-merc aptopropionic acid are most readily extracted with a mixture of isoamyl alochol and benzene (1: 1), whereas the compounds of molybdenum with 1-mercaptopropionic acid are extracted with a mixture of isoamyl alcohol and chloroform (1: 1) when diphenylguanidinium or benzilthiuronium cations are present in the aqueous phase. It was established that to a complex anion of Mo(V) with 1-mercaptopropionic acid one cation is added during extraction, whereas to a complex Mo(VI) anion two diphenylguanidinium or benzilthiuronium cations are added. Extraction- photometric methods were developed for the determination of molybdenum with 1- mercaptopropionic acid and p-phenetidide -1-mercaptopropionic acid in the presence of tungsten and other elements.
