Investigation of hyperfine interactions in rare-earth orthoferrites by the Fe$sup 57$ NMR method

The spin echo method was used in measurements of the hyperfine fields on the $sup 57$Fe nuclei in the orthoferrites LaFeO$sub 3$, PrFeO$sub 3$, GdFeO$sub 3$, ErFeO$sub 3$, TmFeO$sub 3$, and YbFeO$sub 3$ at 4.2$sup 0$K, in HoFeO$sub 3$ at 41$sup 0$K, and in NdFeO$sub 3$ at 77$sup 0$K. The reduction of the hyperfine field along the orthoferrite series from 565.9 kOe (LaFeO$sub 3$) to 550.5 kOe (LuFeO$sub 3$) was explained by indirect hyperfine interactions. The results were compared with similar data obtained by the Mossbauer spectroscopy method. (AIP)
