Incorporation of /sup 59/Fe high specific activity among irradiated and irradiated and bled guinea pigs after doses of 280 to 320 r gamma rays was investigated. /sup 59/Fe in quantity of 1 mu C was injected subcutaneously to guinea pigs on the 9th day after irradiation, or the 9th day after irradiation and bleeding and then the activity of peripheral blood was followed from the 10th to 40th day after irradiation. Activity of peripheral blood in irradiated and bled animals was, during the whole experimental period, above the level of only irradiated animals. Even more, absolute values of incorporation during the time between the 10th and 20th day after application of /sup 59/Fe were almost similar and above values in normal animals. The period of maximal incorporation of /sup 59/Fe in peripheral blood corresponded to the period of reticulocytes crises. Examination with /sup 59/Fe proved previous results that immediate bleeding after irradiation has a stimulative hematological effect causing faster erythroid regeneration. The hematopoietic system of guinea pigs was even capable of answering some of classic hematologic stimuli after the doses used. It was possible to influence hematological regeneration but stimulus had to be of higher intensity. (auth)
