ABS>The energy resolution of an ionization chamber filled with a mixture of argon and water vapor is investigated. For partial pressures of water vapor from 2.5 to 0.5 torr and an argon pressure of 2 atm satisfactory results are obtained. The pulse amplitude distribution of alpha particles from /sup 238/ Pu and /sup 239/Pu with a halfwidth corresponding to 42 and 50 kev are illustrated. (tr-auth)
