The curves for uranium alpha particles in chambers filled with various toluene-argon and n-heptane-argon mixtures almost coincided. The optimum toluene and n-heptane vapor concentrations for the highest alpha -pulse yield are also identical and equal 1-mm mercury per at. of argon. Moreover, the pulse amplitudes in toluene-argon and n-heptaneargon chambers are higher by a factor of l.47 to l.49 than those obtained with pure argon. (R.V.J.)
