A LITHIUM-DRIFTED SILICON SURFACE-BARRIER DETECTOR FOR NUCLEAR RADIATIONS

Journal Article · · Nucl. Instr. Methods

A detailed description is given of a technique for the preparation of silicon junction detectors, using the lithium ion-drift process to achieve sensitive volumes several millimeters in thickness. By forming a surface-barrier on such compensated material, window thicknesses below 1 mu have been easily obtained. Experimental results are presented. Energy resolutions better than 60 kev for alphas and protons, and 25 kev for betas, have been obtained at room temperature. (auth)
