The advantages and specific properties of /sup 60/Co sources used in industrial radiography, medical teletherapy, and material radiation are described. Production methods for radiographic sources of /sup 60/Co, /sup 192/Ir, /sup 182/Ta, and /sup 137/C s are given. The decomposition scheme for /sup 60/Co and / sup 192/Ir isotopes is shown. Various aspects of the radiation and activity in a reactor are covered, with particular reference to the thermal neutron flux. The protection of the sources enclosed in special pure Al carriers, as well as the role of the filtration of softer radiation sources components are given special attention. The problem of re-activity is treated in the description of some aspects of production and use of radiographic sources. (auth)
