RESEARCH ON NEW CONCEPTS IN ENERGY CONVERSION. First Quarterly Technical Progress Report, September 1, 1963-November 30, 1963

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4013005
The development, theory, design, fabrication, and testing of two forms of closed-cycle magnetohydrodynamic powergeneration systems and cesium thermionic converters are investigated. Topics covered include: magnetohydrodynamic power generation with liquid metals, liquid-metal magnetohydrodynamic generators, electrical conductivity of two-phase liquid-metal flow, magnetohydrodynamic channel flow, systems with alknli-metal vapor generators, studies of transport phenomena in cesium thermionic converters, electron and ion emission from; different crystallographic orientations in vacuum and cesium, measurements of thermal conductivity in cesium gas, studies of surfaces, electron and ion emission from a tungsten monocrystal, and penetration of an ion through an ionic dipole layer at an electrode surface.
