Half-lives for members of the $sup 236$U ground-state rotational band have been measured by the recoil-distance method following Coulomb excitation with $sup 40$Ar$sup 8+$ projectiles. The B (E2, I$Yields$I-2) values in units of e$sup 2$ b$sup 2$ determined from the half-lives of the 4$sup +$, 6$sup +$, 8$sup +$, 10$sup +$, and 12$sup +$ states are 3.03+-0.20, 3.28+-0.19, 3.42+-0.28, 3.11+- 0.30, and 3.34$sup +2$$.$$sup 23$/sub em-dash//sub 0//sub .9//sub 5/, respectively. Transition quadrupole moments Q$sub 20$(I/subi/$Yields$I/subf/) deduced from the lifetimes are constant within experimental error and thus support the characterization of $sup 236$U as a good rotor to spin 12$sup +$.
