STUDIES OF ELASTIC SCATTERING OF PROTONS, DEUTERONS, AND ALPHA PARTICLES FROM ISOTOPES OF Cu, Ni, AND Fe

Angular distributions of elastically scattered protons were measured at bombarding energies of 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 Mev from enriched isotopic targets of /58/Ni, /sup 60/Ni, /sup 63/Cu, and /sup 65/Cu. The angular distributions of 12-Mev elastically scattered protons, deuterons, and alpha particles were measured from targets of /sup 58/Ni, /sup 60/Ni, /sup 62/Ni, /sup 64/N i, /sup 63/ Cu, /sup 65/Cu, and /sup 54/Fe. The range of angles measured was between 20 and 169 deg . Absolute cross sections are believed to be accurate to about 5%, the relative measurements to 2.5%. The measured angular distributions are compared with ones calculated from optical-model potentials. For the proton scattering, the sensitivity of such data to a symmetry term in the potential and to the dependence of the potential on incident proton energy was also investigated and the results are compared with the ones arrived at by Perey.
