C$sup 12$$($$pi$$sup -$$,$$pi$$sup -$n)C$sup 11$ EXCITATION FUNCTION

The /sup 12/C( pi /sup -/, pi /sup -/n)/sup 11/C excitation function was measure d with incident pions of energies from 0.45 to 1.9 Bev. The excitation function of this simple nuclear reaction shows effects of the elementary pion- nucleon resonances. The pi /sup -/--n resonances tend to be reproduced in the excitation function, while the pi /sup -/ -p resonances tend to cause a reduction in the cross sections. The production of /sup 11/C and /sup 18/F by pi /- interactions with Al targets was also studied over the same energy range. These excitation functions do not exhibit any structure. (auth)
