IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO CHARGE/DISCHARGE SYSTEMS FOR GAS-COOLED NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4005489
A charge-discharge system is designed for use in a gas-cooled reactor which is still being operated. The system includes a charging vessel with a magazine for the storage of fuel elements, a charge tube for charging and discharging any channel and which constitutes a gas flow path from the channel to the magazine, and a further tube for the return of coolant from the magazine to the reactor. Thus, the fuel elements in any channel being charged or discharged are arranged to remnin in a gas-flow path and thus present a constant impedance to the gas flow. To prevent a higher-than-normal impedance should fuel elements be inserted in the further tube by mistake, a by-pass is provided in the charge tube in the reactor. The system is a modification of that described in British Patent 911,863. (D.L.C.)
