A remote-operated fluid coupling device is designed for effecting a seal between the charging barrel of a refueling machine and a reactor standpipe. The device comprises a tubular coupling member of stepped bore and a sleeve of stepped section movable in the bore between withdrawn and projecting positions, seals between the sleeve and the bore, and means for controlling a fluid pressure in the bore between the seals.
