HEAT EXCHANGER OR BOILER ESPECIALLY FOR MAKING USE OF THE HEAT DEVELOPED IN NUCLEAR REACTORS
A heat exchanger or boiler was designed with an annular cylindrical casing, a plurality of parallel heat-exchange tubes within the casing, and annular header chambers communicating with the tubes and disposed at the two ends of the cylindric casing. A highly pressurized medium flows through the tubes and the header chambers, while a second medium circulates in the annular casing in the interstices between the heat-exchange tubes. The span of surface subjected to the high pressure has a maximum radial width equal to the annular tube bundle so that the wall of the header chambers may be relatively weak. Each header chamber may be formed by two annular plates resting together at two concentric annular regions, the distance between them being nearly equal to the radial width of the annular tube bundle.
