This report provides information on new developments including wireline logs and test tools, more versatile MWD, seal and nuclear magnetic resonance rock property catalogs, and better mud logging gas measurement methods. It reviews information on wireline logs and includes information on surface units, downhole tractors, resistivity through casing, openhole resistivity, correction methods, acoustic, density, neutron, gamma, pulsed neutron capture, and nuclear magnetism. MWD systems now include acoustic, nuclear, resistivity, caliper, geosteering, and wall resistivity measurements. Mud logging now allows for better hydrocarbon analysis methods. Accurate gas-in-mud measurements can be used to analyze gas component ratios for hydrocarbon typing and for well to well correlations. Other discussions are provided on drill coring and core analysis techniques. 52 refs.
