Over the past few years, re-entry drilling has become one of the most successful methods for cost-effective production improvement. Much credit for this goes to the growth in the technologies involved in section milling and whipstock milling. These innovations, often made well-by-well and tool-by-tool, meet the demands for faster and less costly slot recovery, penetration of the well casing and successful departure from the wellbore to drill the sidetracks. The paper contains brief case histories of the use of these innovations on 8 wells.
