Technical challenges while drilling a deep horizontal re-entry well

Journal Article · · World Oil
OSTI ID:538261
With the objective of establishing commercial gas production, a re-entry program was designed to sidetrack a marginally producing vertical well completed in a naturally fractured carbonate reservoir. The best possible means of achieving this objective was to drill a horizontal wellbore perpendicular to the near vertical fracture trend. This article discusses the technical challenges of drilling a horizontal sidetrack, within a hostile environment, to a then-unprecedented TVD.
