The ratio R ({Delta}E) of double- to single-ionization cross section of He by 2-6 MeV proton impact has been measured as a function of energy transfer ({Delta}E), determined by analyzing and proton energy after collision using the Elbek magnetic spectrograph. The ratio, at the same energy transfer, is observed to be relatively independent of proton energy within experimental error. R ({Delta}E), however, decreases with increasing energy transfer from 2% at {Delta}E = 1 keV to about 0.8% at {Delta}E=10 KeV. Further comparisons of these ratios with those obtained from photoionization and Compton scattering have been made.
