35 GHz, 25 kW CW third-harmonic gyrotron

The design of a compact 25 kW CW, 35 GHz oscillator will be presented. The approach is to use the efficient gyrotron interaction at a harmonic so that the required magnetic field can be supplied by a permanent magnet while keeping the operating voltage below 50 kV to reduce the insulation requirements. Two third-harmonic 35 GHz gyrotrons will be described that can generate 25 kW CW with a total efficiency of {ge} 45%.
