Retrofit of LP rotors on nuclear turbines in Belgium

Conference ·
OSTI ID:389912

Tractebel Energy Engineering (TEE) had several options available for eliminating the defects related to stress-corrosion in the LP shrunk-on disk rotors of 500 and 1,000 MW turbines. After conducting a technical and financial analysis, TEE decided to replace the existing rotors with welded rotors associated with a new steam path: the performance improvements proposed and guaranteed by Gec Alsthom (GA) have helped to economically justify the replacement solution. Moreover the new technology implemented will increase turbine reliability and availability. The heat rate tests carried out on Tihange 1 have revealed a gain greater than expected, thus confirming the better performance of the new steam path, designed by GA and the right choice made by TEE and its customers.
