Efficient synthesis of polyhydroxylated fullerene derivatives via hydrolysis of polycyclosulfated precursors

Cyclosulfated fullerene derivatives were hydrolyzed in the presence of water or in aqueous NaOH solution giving polyhydroxylated fullerenes. Both sulfated precursors and hydroxylated products were characterized. 7 figs.
