High spin states in {sup 206}Pb with the (p,t) reaction

At the Indiana University Cyclotron Facility (IUCF), the K600 high resolution spectrometer was used to measure triton energy spectra of a ({tilde p},t) reaction on {sup 208}Pb at 120 MeV proton incident energy, The overall energy resolution of the resulting triton spectra, after replay, was 25-40 KeV. Data were taken from 7.5{degrees} to 34{degrees} in step of 4{degrees} and distributions for cross sections and analyzing powers were calculated for all the low lying, high spin states in {sup 208}Pb, which are expected to be nearly pure neutron pair-bole configurations. Zero-range DWBA analysis was compared with the data, and a M-normalization constant D{sup 2}{sub o}=7.3 (in units of 10{sup 4} MeV fm{sup 3}) was determined. At 120 MeV the cross sections were found very sensitive to the triton optical potentials and the total angular momentum transferred during the reaction. The effects of different, configurations used for the neutron pairs were quite small. Finite-range and two-step DWBA calculations are in progress and comparison with ZR-DWBA are expected to be very useful for understanding the reaction mechanism in the ({tilde p},t) reactions.
