Measurement of the spin-dependent transverse-longitudinal asymmetry A{sub TL{prime}} in {sup 3}He(e,e{prime}) quasielastic scattering

The spin-dependent asymmetry in quasielastic ({tilde e}, e`) scattering from polarized {sup 3}He was measured at MIT-Bates for Q{sup 2} = 0.14 (GeV/c){sup 2} at E = 370 MeV. The experiment employed a metastability-exchange optically pumped polarized {sup 3}He gas target, with which a luminosity of 2 x 10{sup 33} cm{sup -2}s{sup -1} was achieved. The CHIPS magnetic spectrometer was used to detect scattered electrons at kinematics corresponding to {tilde q} being perpendicular to the target spin ({theta}* = 90{degrees}). We present results for the extracted transverse-longitudinal asymmetry, A{sub TL`}, as a function of energy loss in the range 30 < w < 96 MeV. The data provide information about the spin structure of the {sup 3}He ground state and are expected to be sensitive to the neutron electric form factor, G{sub e}{sup n}.
