High energy pion double charge exchange on {sup 44,48}Ca

The differential cross sections of the ({pi}{sup +}, {pi}{sup -}) reaction on {sup 44}Ca and {sup 48}Ca leading to the double isobaric analog states, with 400 MeV incident pion energy, have been measured at LAMPF using the P{sup 3} channel and the Large Acceptance Spectrometer. At low incident pion energy, the angular distributions of double charge exchange (DCX) differ dramatically for various calcium isotopes. One motivation for this experiment is to compare the angular distributions of pion DCX on the calcium isotopes at high energy. We will report on the measured cross sections and discuss the results.
