We calculate the first vertex correction {delta}{Lambda}{sub {ital k}} to the bare vertex {Lambda}{sub 0} in the nearly antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation Fermi-liquid theory of the cuprate supercondutor YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 7}. It is calculated for {ital k} on the Fermi surface, and {ital Q}=({plus_minus}{pi}/{ital a},{plus_minus}{pi}/{ital a}). We find that the dimensionless ratio {vert_bar}{delta}{Lambda}{sub {ital k}}{vert_bar}/{Lambda}{sub 0}, which parametrizes the vertex correction, is not small. It is a maximum for {ital k}={ital k}{sub {ital h}}, where {ital k}{sub {ital h}} is a {open_quote}{open_quote}hot spot{close_quote}{close_quote} on the Fermi surface. This makes large quantitative corrections to the theory. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
