ThinLine{reg_sign} portable energy products: A new approach to sealed lead battery technology
- Portable Energy Products, Scotts Valley, CA (United States)
Sealed lead cells and batteries have historically been designed using containers with thick plastic walls reinforced with heavy plastic ribs or steel casings to withstand the internal pressure and compression forces required for efficient performance and long life. These design approaches have significantly detracted from the practical energy density and specific energy of sealed lead electrochemistry because of the volume and weight of the passive component materials not participating in energy storage. ThinLine{reg_sign} Portable Energy Products represent a new approach to the design of sealed lead batteries that reduces the weight and volume of the passive components resulting in much higher specific energy (weight) and energy density (volume). In addition, the planar ThinLine{reg_sign} design overcomes the geometric incongruity of packaging round cells into rectangular cases resulting in a 10--25% loss in efficiency.
