NRRI summary of Wisconsin Public Service Commission: The future of Wisconsin`s electric power industry

The electric industry`s rapid transformation, driven by technological advances and federal regulatory changes, prompted the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (Commission) to consider fundamental changes in the structure and regulation of the electric power industry. The Wisconsin Public Service Commission Staff (Staff) prepared a Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), a precursor to a final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), to explain the economic, system, environmental, and socioeconomic effects of adopting a fully competitive and largely deregulated electric industry structure. This article summaries the DEIS report.
