Isgur-Wise function and V{sub cb} from Bethe-Salpeter equations
- and others
The authors calculate the Isgur-Wise function from solutions of the Bethe-Salpeter equations. These equations have a kernel consisting of one gluon exchange and linear confinement adjusted to give a good phenomenological description of meson mass spectra. The shape of the calculated Isgur-Wise function is thus a prediction of the Beth-Salpeter equations and does not depend on undetermined parameters. The authors treatment uses finite values of heavy quark masses. The corresponding Isgur-Wise function consequently deviates from unity at zero recoil signifying the effects of finite mass corrections. The authors develop an analytical approximation to their Isgur-Wise function in the form {xi}({omega})={eta}[1 {minus}{rho}{sup 2}/{eta}({omega} {minus} 1) + a({omega} {minus} 1){sup 3/2}] where {rho}{sup 2} = 1.279, a = .91, {eta} = .9942 and {omega} is the recoil velocity. This Isgur-Wise function is then used to obtain V{sub cb} using the latest experimental data from ARGUS and CLEO for {bar B} {yields} D{sup *}{ell}{bar {nu}} decay. Their best estimate of V{sub cb} is (34.7 {+-} 2.5) x 10{sup {minus}3}.
