Two-proton correlations in 10.8 A-GeV/c Au + Au central collisions
Measurements of two-proton small relative momenta correlations in 10.8 A.GeV/c Au + Au central collisions have been made by the experiment E877 at the BNL AGS. Charged particles are identified by momentum and time of flight measurements. Central collisions ({sigma}/{sigma}{sub geom} {le} 10%) are selected via transverse energy measurements. Two proton correlation functions are evaluated using the {open_quotes}mixed{close_quotes} method. The experimental results are compared with predictions of the cascade model RQMD + Koonin-Pratt formula calculations, from which the source size is obtained. In addition, the authors will discuss the sensitivity of the correlation functions on various kinematic variables.
