A technique for determining the {sup 236}U content in spent nuclear fuels has been developed that utilizes high resolution ICP-AES. The production of {sup 236}U in reactor fuels is directly proportional to the atom percent burn-up that occurs. The sampling was performed via laser ablation and comparison to standard liquid sampling will be presented. This technique can be performed remotely and the total analysis time is very fast, i.e., less than 5 minutes. Accuracy, precision and detection limits will be presented.
