The development of catalysts to control the emission of environmentally unacceptable compounds is increasingly important as stricter air and water quality standards are put in place. FT-IR spectroscopy can be a useful tool for studies related to environmental catalysis. We are currently using FT-IR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry to investigate the decomposition of nitrous oxide on zirconia.
