The Great Lakes Regional Air Toxic Emission Inventory: Ideas to improve the inventory
- Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Springfield, IL (United States)
The eight Great Lakes states and Ontario, Canada, working together through the Great Lakes Commission, have developed a regional emission inventory of 49 airborne toxic pollutants from point and area sources for calendar year 1993. While developing the 1993 inventory, several areas have been identified that will improve the inventory, RAPIDS (Regional Air Pollutant Inventory Development System) and the protocol. Even though not all of the improvements have been accomplished, the compilation of the 1993 inventory was a learning process for all involved. Future modifications are expected and desired. This paper describes the ideas the Steering Committee has to improve the quality of the inventory. Improvements not only include quality control checks, but changes and additions to the RAPIDS software itself.
