Customer Systems Group: Strategic overview (Revision 3)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:34387
EPRI`s Customer Systems Group (CSG) manages research development and delivery areas to assist members in the efficient use of electricity to meet customer and utility needs in a business that is changing quickly due to the new competitive environment. This report reviews the significant opportunities offered by this approach and how they have been addressed by CSG`s research strategy. Utility retail customers have become preoccupied with reducing energy costs and have begun to demand improved services and enhanced support from utilities. Wholesale customers are increasingly attracted by promises of greater supplies and continue to demand lower commodity prices. Regulatory pressure and threatened competition from wholesale and retail wheeling have made cost the byword. International competition, environmental compliance, and power quality concerns prompt customers to search for technology solutions--providing a vacuum for someone to fill. EPRI`s CSG will help members understand and meet these important customer needs.
