The behavior of Portland cement with and without 30% fly ash additive in aggressive solutions was studied. This paper considers the sulfate corrosion of hardened cement paste. Cement paste test samples were prepared, cured in water for 21 days, and then exposed to an aggressive environment (10% (NH{sub 4})SO{sub 4} solution). Several properties were measured and the results were analyzed. The surface composition and morphology of the cement paste test samples were imaged by scanning electron microscopy. The concentration gradient of sulfate ions in cement paste depth was obtained by energy-dispersive analysis.
