R-symmetry in MSSM and beyond
- Bartol Research Institute, University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware 19716 (United States)
This talk explores the role that U(1) (or some discrete) R-symmetries can play in the construction of realistic supersymmetric models. By exploiting U(1){sub R}, the first part attempts to obtain a more robust version of MSSM in which neutrinos are massive and the resolution of the {mu} and strong CP problems is intimately related. The second part goes beyond the MSSM gauge group by considering SU(3){sub c}{times}SU(2){sub L}{times}SU(2){sub R}{times}U(1){sub B{minus}L}, supplemented by U(1){sub R}. The parameter tan&hthinsp;{beta}{approx_equal}m{sub t}/m{sub b}, which allows one to predict the top quark mass in the right ball park, and also explain why the {open_quote}standard model{close_quote} higgs h{degree} has so far not been found at LEPII. Its tree level mass is M{sub Z{degree}} and, after radiative corrections, one expects m{sub h{degree}}{approximately}110{plus_minus}10&hthinsp;GeV. This particular scheme also resolves the {mu} problem of MSSM and enables one to realize an inflationary epoch with the spectral index of density fluctuations very close to unity (n{approx}0.98). {copyright} {ital 1998 American Institute of Physics.}
