If hydrogen is to be implemented as a national and global solution to energy problems, then industry and government must work together to make that happen. The role of the hydrogen community is to convince the US Department of Energy to move quickly on development and deployment of hydrogen technologies. The meeting was designed to address critical issues surrounding the development, deployment, and commercialization of hydrogen technologies. A decision was reached by the NHA leadership to formulate and present to the membership a 20-year commercialization plan for hydrogen. The plan will be developed, refined, and discussed with NHA members and others over the next year. The goal is for industry to commit resources, in partnership with government, which allow taking the first meaningful steps toward developing products for major future hydrogen markets. The 36 papers in the proceedings are divided into the following topical sections: National hydrogen energy policies; Launching sustainable new technology ventures; Implementing hydrogen technologies; Enabling technologies; Codes and standards for a safe hydrogen future; New hydrogen products launched in 1995-96; Financing a hydrogen future; and Emerging hydrogen markets. The proceedings also include a summary of the panel discussion: Creating an industry plan for a hydrogen future.
