Electrocrystallization of UO{sub 2{+-}X} from K{sub 2}MoO{sub 4}-K{sub 2}Mo{sub 2}O{sub 7}-UO{sub 2}MoO{sub 4} molten salt

The behavior of uranyl ions in molten potassium polymolybdates at 1073-1173 K in air is studied by voltammetry and chronopotentiometry. An exchange reaction occurs between the electrolysis products, i.e., UO{sub 2{+-}X} and MoO{sub 2-y}, in which MoO{sub 2} acts as an O{sup 2{minus}} acceptor. The conditions are found that enable the O/U ratio in UO{sub 2{+-}X} to be controlled from 1.981 to 2.105 by electrolysis of polymolybdate melts.
