Implications of the {ital B}{r_arrow}{ital X}l{bold {nu}}{sub l} Lepton Spectrum for Heavy Quark Physics
- California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, California 91125 (United States)
The shape of the lepton spectrum in inclusive semileptonic {ital B}{r_arrow}{ital X}l{nu}{sub l} decay is sensitive to the matrix elements of the heavy quark effective theory, {Lambda} and {lambda}{sub 1}. From CLEO data we extract {Lambda} =0.39{plus_minus}0.11 GeV and {lambda}{sub 1}={minus}0.19{plus_minus}0.10 GeV{sup 2}, where the uncertainty is the 1{sigma} statistical error only. Systematic uncertainties are discussed. These values for {Lambda} and {lambda}{sub 1} are used to determine {vert_bar}{ital V}{sub {ital cb}}{vert_bar} and the {ital MS} bottom and charm quark masses. We discuss the theoretical uncertainties related to order ({Lambda}{sub QCD}/{ital m}{sub {ital b}}){sup 3} effects and higher orders in the perturbative expansion. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
