{parallel}{ital V}{sub {ital ub}}{parallel} from exclusive {ital B} and {ital D} decays

We propose a model-independent method to determine the magnitude of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element {parallel}{ital V}{sub {ital ub}}{parallel} from exclusive {ital B} and {ital D} decays. Combining information obtainable from {ital B}{r_arrow}{rho}l{bar {nu}}{sub l}, {ital B}{r_arrow}{ital K}{sup {asterisk}}{nu}{bar {nu}}, {ital D}{r_arrow}{rho}{bar l}{nu}{sub l}, and {ital D}{r_arrow}{ital K}{sup {asterisk}}{bar l}{nu}{sub l}, a determination of {parallel}{ital V}{sub {ital ub}}{parallel} is possible, with an uncertainty from theory of around 10{percent}. Theoretical uncertainties in the {ital B}{r_arrow}{ital K}{sup {asterisk}}l{bar l} decay rate are discussed. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}
