Liquid applied vinyl ester linings have been instrumental in providing corrosion protection to various components in flue gas desulfurization systems. These linings can be cost effectively applied with standard spray equipment. They exhibit excellent resistance to the reaction of chlorides, fluorides and sulfur under high temperature and abrasive conditions during the burning of fossil fuels. Lining systems have been successfully applied to provide protection to stack liners, ducting, scrubbers, thickener tanks and other vessels. This paper will provide a description of components requiring protection from corrosion, materials used to provide protection and various tests conducted to simulate operating conditions in the FGD system. It will also include details relating to case histories from around the world, describe application criteria and list advantages/disadvantages of the liquid applied vinyl esters.
