This paper discusses the Louisiana state program to regulate naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) associated primarily with oil and gas exploration. The program is primarily intended to protect human health from chronic exposure, and to protect the environment. Cleanup level exemptions for equipment and land containing NORM are specified. Other topics briefly discussed include correlation of radiation survey levels with concentrations, general licenses for cleanup, and waste disposal.
