Silicon photodiodes were studied with respect to their applicability to personal dosimeters. A new concept of X- and {gamma}-ray dosimeter is based on two identical photodiodes, one of which is shielded by an absorber. The dosimeter has two measuring channels: a high-energy channel, and a low-energy one. The dose is determined as a sum of energies registered in the high-energy channel, plus the weighted sum of energies registered in the other channel. The concept enables the sensitivity characteristic of the dosimeter to be made flat with {+-}20% accuracy within the energy range 10 keV to 1.3 MeV.
